VALPAINT

Decorative finishes that turn colour into a material surface
Valpaint works at the point where colour becomes material. Founded in 1988 in Polverigi, the Italian company develops decorative coatings capable of giving walls the depth of oxidised metal, stone, concrete, silk, velvet or softly weathered plaster. Atmosphere is created through the interaction of colour, texture and light rather than through colour alone.
These effects are developed as complete application systems. Primers, decorative layers, additives and protective finishes are formulated to work together, giving the applicator control over adhesion, texture, colour movement and resistance. The finished surface still carries the hand of the craftsman, but it is supported by a clearly defined technical process rather than improvised decoration.
Material authenticity is one of Valpaint’s strongest qualities. Metallic finishes react to changing light, mineral effects retain subtle irregularities, and polished surfaces acquire depth through successive layers. Walls avoid the flat repetition of printed imitations. Even when the inspiration comes from concrete, Corten steel or natural stone, the coating retains its own identity and the small variations that make a hand-applied surface convincing.
Behind this visual language is an in-house research and development laboratory, where new formulas are created with specialist chemists and technicians. Valpaint also works with universities and external laboratories to improve performance and replace substances considered harmful to people or the environment with alternatives derived from natural and renewable resources. Research is therefore not separated from the decorative result; it determines how the surface adheres, ages, responds to cleaning and performs in demanding interiors.
The company’s expertise extends beyond feature walls. Valpaint E-Volution is formulated for continuous application across bathroom walls, floors and shower interiors. The system combines decorative depth with resistance to water, foot traffic and chemical agents, allowing surfaces to flow across different planes with fewer visual interruptions. The result is particularly effective in bathrooms, kitchens and wellness interiors where conventional decorative paint would not provide sufficient protection.
The portfolio also includes water-based decorative finishes for exterior surfaces, extending the same material language to façades and protected outdoor areas. Breathable, washable and weather-resistant formulations allow sand, mineral and oxidised effects to continue beyond the interior while responding to the different technical demands of external walls.
Application remains fundamental to the character of every finish. The same product can appear quieter, more textured or more reflective depending on the tools, layering and movement used by the decorator. Valpaint supports this craft through practical training for painters and specialist applicators, helping the intended effect remain technically controlled and repeatable across larger projects.
Valpaint is therefore best understood not as a conventional paint manufacturer, but as a developer of decorative surface systems. Its catalogue gives designers a wide expressive range, while its technical structure allows each project to be adjusted in colour, movement, texture and intensity. The result can be restrained or theatrical, but it always depends on a carefully managed relationship between chemistry, craftsmanship and light.
